Columbia JVBC 2019-2020 Season

Weather Policy

Practice Schedule changes due to bad weather will be posted on our website and twitter at least two hours before the start of practice. Please, always check our website before heading to practice. Please check road conditions unique to your area when coming to practice from out of town.

(We also attempt to monitor weather conditions for tournaments during the week we have a team playing.)

Code of Conduct

The overriding principle under which we will always operate is: conduct yourself in such a manner that you bring credit and respect to the Columbia Junior Volleyball program, your teammates, yourself, and your family.

Each athlete and their parents will agree with the rules and regulations of this program. An athlete or parent who willfully performs an act, which materially interferes with or is detrimental to the orderly operation of the program, shall be subject to discipline, suspension or expulsion.

Discipline shall mean all forms of corrective action other than suspension and expulsion, and may include the following: [1] Exclusion of the athlete or parent from practice(s), match(es), or tournament(s), and or [2] Probation during which the athlete remains part of the team while she is give the opportunity to correct the deficiency in a time prescribed by the coach. During probation, the athlete may continue to practice and participate in matches and tournaments. In the event probation is imposed, the coach will inform the athlete of the deficiency, how the athlete may correct it, and the number of day(s) of probation. Upon completion of the probationary period it may be extended or the athlete may be suspended.

Suspension shall mean a suspension from participation for a specified number of days during which the athlete may not participate in any team related activity.

Expulsion shall mean the complete denial of the right to participate for an indefinite period of time.

Prior to the implementation of any disciplinary action a conference will be conducted with the athlete to provide her the opportunity to present an explanation of her action. Following the conference with the athlete, the coach will notify the athlete of the action to be taken. Promptly thereafter the club director and the athlete's parents will be contacted noting the action taken and the reason for disciplinary action.

The following acts, not to be considered all-inclusive, shall constitute sufficient cause for disciplinary action:

  1. Disruptive and unsportsmanlike conduct at practice or tournaments.
  2. Unexcused absence from practice, matches, or tournaments.
  3. Use or possession of tobacco, alcoholic beverages, drugs and/or related paraphernalia.
  4. Disobedience of reasonable instructions from the coaching staff.
  5. Tardiness to practices or matches.
  6. Failure to maintain academic standards of the program.
  7. Negative attitude toward the team or team members(s).
  8. Parents should refrain from approaching their child's coach in a confrontational manner during tournaments.

Rule of Practice

1. There is no sitting down in practice unless so instructed by your coach.
2. Practice will always start on time and will end when all equipment has been returned to it's place.
3. Failure to maintain emotional control will lead to dismissal from all or part of the practice, (or a match, or tournament.)
4. All taping must be done prior to the start of the practice.
5. Mentally prepare for each practice - Practice is your sanctuary where you get to put the rest of your life on hold - Make the best use of your practice time by preparing for it mentally before walking into the gym.
6. Run when called in by the coach for instructions. Listen until the entire instruction is given, then ask questions. If it's a long or involved question, save it for the break or after practice.
7. Always shag the ball when being assigned or keep it away from the playing area or the drill in progress.
8. If you must leave the practice area for personal issues, let your coach know.
9. Every time you touch/contact the ball, you must call it by using verbal code or word designated for each technique.
10. In every drill, especially when fatigued, attempt to play every ball using the correct technique taught.
11. If a teammate is fatigued during the drill, encourage her onward.
12. A Player must notify her coach as early as possible if she will miss practice or be late (due to school, illness, medical, or other emergency).
13. Players must report injuries or illness immediately to their coach.
14. There will be no wearing jewelry during the practice or match.
15. No chewing gum during practice or match.
16. Alway wear your uniform as designed.

Attendance

Because of our limited practice schedule, and the program orientation toward accelerated technical development, attendance (along with promptness) is extremely important in order that the goals of each athlete and the program may be achieved.

It is expected that the athlete prioritize her schedule and exercise good time management skills so that scheduling conflicts are kept to a minimum.

In all cases, the athlete must inform her coach or the club director a minimum of 24 hours in advance when she can't attend a practice or tournament. If a practice or tournament is missed, it is the responsibility of the athlete to contact her coach or check the club web site to confirm the date and the time of the next practice.

A practice and tournament schedule will be posted on the website, and if there are changes due to the weather or other conditions beyond our control, athletes will be notified of the changes either on the website (or if on extremely short notice only) by their coach. We will also post the tournament sites(s) or any changes to the tournament schedule on our club's website.

All athletes must arrive at each tournament on time (set by their coach). Male friend(s) of the athlete are not recommended to travel with the team and we will not allow a boyfriend to hangout with, or around the team gathering location.
