Columbia teams won Twenty-Two Tournament or Division Championships in 2013!
Columbia 14-Black enters the fourth day of the Disney Summer Soiree tournament 5-4 and playing in the elite top 32 group. Our 14's look to finish today with a bang and head off to California Adventure after proving they can play with the big California clubs. Congratulations, and good luck girls!
Columbia 18-National meanwhile is playing way up in age level at USAV Nationals. Despite only having one U-18 player (the team is actually U-16 and U-15 players), these girls are building the experience they will need to return to Nationals and really challenge over the next 2 to 3 years. Twice already they have been within two points of defeating much older teams!
Keep up the great play everyone!
In between posing for pictures with youtube stars at Vidcon 2014, Columbia 14-Black went undefeated their first day at the Disney Summer Soiree tournament in Anaheim. The 14-Black girls swept three SoCal teams to advance into day two. Good work girls!
Columbia 12-Black finished their season at the Evergreen Region Championships over the weekend. Our Club Director has proudly called these girls his "munchkins" all season, but he'll have to refer to them as his "warriors" after their performance at Regionals. Despite two broken bones and several other injuries, the girls of 12-Black refused to fall and played their way into the Platinum bracket and finished 7th overall. These girls will form the heart of many Columbia teams in the future, just like the girls from our very first U-12 team now can be found leading our U-15 and U-16 teams today! Congratulations to these girls, parents, and coaches! We'll be excited to see you back in the fall.
Columbia 16-Red won the 16-USA Flight 3 Championship at the Far Westerns National Qualifier in Reno, NV over the weekend. The Red ladies saw some great competition and won when it counted at the end. Great finish ladies!
Meanwhile, Columbia had three other teams competing in 18-Open, 16-Open, and 15-Open. Columbia 15-Black is the youngest team we've ever sent south to this tournament and got some great experience reaching the Flight 3 quarterfinals. Columbia 16-Black reached the Flight 3 semifinals after being a perfect 3-0 on the second day of the tournament. Columbia 18-Black had previously qualified for Nationals at the ERVA Regional Championships, and picked up several great wins.
Two of Columbia's youngest teams opened the 2014 CEVA Power League season with the first of two qualifiers on Sunday. Columbia 14-Black had a roller coaster day, playing four tie-breakers in their first four matches (winning two and losing two by two points each) and finishing 23rd overall for the day. Columbia 14-Red had an even tougher day, facing all higher seeds in their qualifier, they were swept and finished 25th overall (holding their seed.) Both teams are in the First Division (Power League I) of the 152 team U-14 Power League.
Columbia 12-Black stormed out to a 3rd place finish at the Block and Awe tournament in Yakima on January 11th to open their season. The 12-Black girls roared to 3 straight wins before falling in the championship semifinal. A week later, the 12-Black girls went 2-3 and finished 8th overall at the TC Kickoff tournament on January 18th. With five wins already, the youngest Columbia players are off to a great start for their season!
